Police investigating vehicle vandalism reports

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University police are investigating a rash of vehicle vandalism reports in the McCutcheon Drive Parking Garage.

The first victim to call the police department Wednesday (4/21) morning reported that the antenna and bug deflector were damaged on his truck, which also sustained a scratch. While police were meeting with him in the parking garage, officers found several other vehicles with damage to antennas, windshield wipers, luggage racks, license plates and mirrors. Other victims subsequently contacted police, including one whose truck was broken into and the hood opened. A pair of sunglasses and the vehicle's air cleaner were stolen.

Purdue police Capt. Ronald J. Fosnaugh said officers believe that more than 20 vehicles were vandalized. Damage and loss totals are still being tallied. He said the vandalism apparently occurred between 9 p.m. Tuesday (4/20) at 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Victims who have not yet contacted police, or persons who may have information about the vandalism in the McCutcheon Drive Parking Garage, are asked to call the Purdue Police Department at (765) 494-8221.
