1999 Purdue Employment Expo approachingWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Because of the success of last year's job fair, Purdue University Personnel Services will sponsor another Employment Expo on Saturday, May 22.
Last year's expo resulted in the hiring of 40 regular and four temporary staff members representing all types of positions, including clerical, service, administrative/professional and technical/science. "With more than 700 visitors and 90 job interviews, last year's Employment Expo definitely exceeded our expectations," said Charlene Hayes, director of personnel services. "It gave us an excellent opportunity to educate members of the Greater Lafayette community, surrounding counties, and the Indianapolis area about the types of jobs available on the West Lafayette campus and our hiring process." The expo offers job seekers "one-stop shopping," allowing them to complete an employment application, take clerical testing, apply for specific jobs, talk to hiring supervisors and, when appropriate, have a screening interview. In early April, Purdue listed more than 130 job openings, including 11 lab technicians, 41 clerical workers, 23 computer/information systems-related specialists, four academic advisers/counselors, 12 managers, 15 custodial workers, 17 food service workers, one science writer/publicist, two accountants, three veterinary technologists, and three veterinary-related supervisors.
