WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The head of Texas Instruments will present the ECE Birck Distinguished Lecture at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 15, in Fowler Hall, Stewart Center, Purdue University.

Thomas Engibous, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Texas Instruments, will present the free public lecture, "Catching the Digital Wave -- The Future of Electronics."

He also will tour a new digital signal processing laboratory at Purdue that is a gift from Texas Instruments. The laboratory includes equipment and programming and development software that will allow the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering to offer a new digital signal processing course for undergraduate and graduate students. The course will focus on creating real-time implementations and new applications.

Engibous also will be the guest at a reception following the speech in the Stewart Center Gallery.

The activities are sponsored by the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Computer Science.

He has worked at Texas Instruments since he earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue in 1976. He also holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Purdue in 1997.

In addition to his corporate duties, Engibous is a member of the Purdue Engineering Visiting Committee and a trustee of Southern Methodist University.
