Campus activities

-- The Women's Resource Office will present "Campus Mediation Programs" at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 15, in Room 214C, Stewart Center. The seminar will examine the role of mediation in conflict resolution and will feature G. Dean Patterson, assistant vice president for student affairs at Case Western Reserve University; Jennifer Maxwell, director of the Center for Applied Conflict Management at Kent State University; and Diana Prieto, assistant director for conflict resolution at Purdue. -- Purdue will offer an evening course for older students who want to improve their study skills. GS 290X, "How to Survive at College," will be offered from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays from June 15 through Aug. 3. Students will receive three academic credits for the course. To register, students should contact their academic advisers or the Office of Admissions, (765) 494-1776. More information is available from Sara Coffman, course instructor, (765) 494-5110.

Faculty and staff honors

-- Four Purdue nominees received an Arch T. Colwell Merit Award for outstanding papers presented during 1997 to the Society of Automotive Engineers International. Papers are judged primarily for their value as new contributions to existing knowledge of mobility engineering. Those honored were J. Stuart Bolton, professor of mechanical engineering; Marifran Mattson, assistant professor of communication; and Gary Eiff, professor, and Timothy Ropp, graduate assistant, both from the Department of Aviation Technology.
