Boilermaker NCAA championship posters available

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A free Purdue women's basketball poster commemorating the team's national championship will be available at a celebration rally tonight (Wednesday, 3/31) at Mackey Arena. Limited numbers of the posters will be available the rest of the week at four campus locations.

The 11-inch-by-17-inch glossy posters are printed in two colors and say "Purdue Women's Basketball. UNFORGETTABLE! 1999 NCAA National Champions." The posters feature photographs of Coach Carolyn Peck, seniors Stephanie White-McCarty and Ukari Figgs, and of the team accepting the NCAA trophy in San Jose, Calif.

The Boilermakers, who defeated Duke in the national championship game Sunday (3/28), compiled a 34-1 record and won 32 consecutive games.

"This special commemorative poster is our way of saying 'Thanks' to the loyal fans who supported the team throughout this fabulous season," said David Brannan, director of Purdue's Office of Publications. His office designed the poster, which is sponsored by the Office of University Relations and the Athletic Public Relations Office.

A limited number of the free posters will be available to fans from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Mackey Arena; the Visitor and Information Center, 504 Northwestern Ave.; the Office of Publications, South Campus Courts-D; and the Alumni Association office, Room 160, Memorial Union.

Everyone who attends tonight's rally at 5:30 p.m. in Mackey will receive a poster. The rally will feature the team, coaches, pep band and cheerleaders, along with the Boilermaker Special, President Steven C. Beering and Athletic Director Morgan Burke.
