Theatre doesn't play around with 'A Doll's House'

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Tony-Award-winning Frank McGuinness adaptation of "A Doll's House" will be presented April 15-25 on The Experimental Stage at Purdue University, concluding Purdue Theatre's 1998-99 mainstage season.

This 1897 tale of Nora, a woman who leaves her marriage to find herself, marks the beginning of modern drama. "A Doll's House" is the first of playwright Henrik Ibsen's plays to link his depiction of people to the disorder behind the family and society's veneer.

The 1997 Broadway production of this adaptation garnered four Tony Awards and the proclamation from reviewer Ben Brantley, "This is why I love the theater."

"A Doll's House" will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 15, through Saturday, April 24, plus a 2:30 matinee on April 18 and a 6 p.m. performance on April 25. (There will be no performance Monday, April 19.)

Tickets are $7 for students and senior citizens, $11 for all others. A sneak preview will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14. Sneak preview tickets are $4.50. Tickets are available at the Loeb Box Office or by calling (765) 494-3933. For information on group discounts, call (765) 494-3084.
