Feb. 26-March 7: Commercial Pesticide Applicator Training

Purdue Pesticide Programs and the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service are providing five commercial pesticide application training sessions for people who want to become certified pesticide applicators in various categories. Participants will learn biology, pesticide formulations, safety and pesticide laws. The sessions are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the certification exam offered immediately thereafter. Registration is $80 per person for each program. Early registration is recommended to receive study materials. Feb. 26-28: Indiana Grape Wine Symposium

The Indiana Wine Growers Guild is sponsoring this symposium and trade show at Bloomington's Courtyard Marriott to improve the wine and grape business. Topics will include marketing, improving sales, grower-winery relations and vineyard management. The symposium, which is run by the Purdue Wine Grape team, starts at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 and will conclude Feb. 28. Registration is $45 for Wine Growers Guild members and $55 for nonmembers. March 4: Indiana Professional Dairy Producers Meeting

The first Indiana Professional Dairy Producers Meeting will give producers an opportunity to learn from each other and from industry experts. The event, in Hall C of the Hamilton County Exhibition Center in Noblesville, will feature guest speakers covering topics such as dairy facility design and how to calculate how Indiana dairy farms compare to the competition. Committee members also will discuss organizational bylaws, organizational structure and the election of the first board of directors. March 20-21: Alpha Gamma Rho Preview Show

Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity is sponsoring this event for cattle producers and judging enthusiasts. A heifer and steer show, plus a judging contest, will be held at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds in Lafayette. The judging contest will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by the heifer show at 2 p.m. The steer show will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday. More than $2,000 in prizes will be given to winners in the heifer and steer shows. The fraternity also will accept applications from high school seniors interested in winning the $500 Iris Albaugh Memorial Scholarship. March 16-April 6: Idem Confined Feeding Public Forums

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management and Purdue are sponsoring seven informational meetings to discuss the draft rules being developed by IDEM on confined feeding operations. IDEM officials will explain the intent and details of the rules and will participate in an open question-and-answer period at each meeting.
