Purdue conference focuses on teaching with technologyWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Technology in the classroom has come a long way since the overhead projector, according to the organizers of the second annual Teaching, Learning and Technology Showcase at Purdue University.The showcase, featuring the latest in electronic and Web-based teaching tools, will be Tuesday and Wednesday, March 2 and 3, on the third floor of Stewart Center at Purdue. The two-day event is an extension of the Focus on Teaching lecture series, sponsored by the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. The showcase is free and open to the public and will feature poster sessions, technology demonstrations and a keynote address by Christopher Dede. He teaches in both the School of Information Technology and the School of Education at George Mason University. The keynote address is at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, in Fowler Hall. The showcase presentations, given mostly by Purdue faculty, will range from the use of electronic testing and assessment to Web-supported courses and virtual classrooms. No registration is necessary. A schedule of events is available on the TLT Showcase 99 web site. The showcase is coordinated by the Multimedia Instructional Development Center at Purdue, the Office of Distance Learning, The Teaching Academy, the Department of Agricultural Economics, the School of Liberal Arts and the Learning Center at Purdue North Central.
