Motivational speaker heads the BTVLive! spring lineup

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- BTVLive will bring live campus lectures and events directly into Purdue University student's rooms this semester with a lineup that includes a motivational speaker and a program about date rape.

These events will be broadcast live on BTVLive!:

  • Wednesday, March 3. Motivational speaker Jewel Diamond Taylor lectures at 7 p.m. in the North Ballroom of the Purdue Memorial Union as part of the Black Cultural Center Cultural Arts Series. Known as the "self-esteem doctor" from Chicago, Taylor has written articles on the subject of self empowerment for Essence, Heart and Soul, and Upscale magazines.

  • Friday, March 12. Alysa Rollock, Purdue's interim vice president for human relations, talks about "Expect the Unexpected" at 11:30 a.m. in the Krannert Auditorium as part of the Krannert Executive Forum.

  • Tuesday, April 6. National speaker Katie Koestner, an outspoken date-rape survivor, presents a program about date rape entitled "He Said -- She Said." The 7 p.m. lecture in Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center, is sponsored by the Intrafraternity Council and Panhellenic Association.

  • Wednesday, April 7. The Purdue Athletic Department presents the annual women's basketball banquet. The end-of-year awards dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., and the program gets under way at 7 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms.

  • Tuesday, April 13. The Purdue Athletic Department presents the annual men's basketball banquet. The end-of-year awards dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., and the program gets under way at 7 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms.

BTVLive! airs on channel 18 of University Residences Television Antenna System (URTAS). URTAS is the campus television system that is broadcast to students in all university residences (residence halls, graduate houses, Hilltop Apartments and The Purdue Village); all outlets in the Purdue Memorial Union, including the Union Club; and about 250 other outlets in campus buildings.

The channel made its debut in spring 1998 with the airing of the Purdue men's basketball banquet and the televising of a lecture by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Thomas Friedman.
