Police investigating strong-arm robberies, attempt

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University police are investigating a strong-arm robbery attempt reported early Saturday (2/13).

Sgt. Peter Wislocki said the case could be related to two early morning strong-arm robbery cases West Lafayette police are investigating, one about midnight in the 300 block of South Grant Street, the other about 2:45 a.m. at Harrison and Sheetz streets.

In the attempted robbery, a male student reported that as he was walking through Duhme Woods toward State Street about 2:10 a.m., a white four-door car stopped nearby and two men got out. They approached him, demanded his money and his book bag, and threatened to "beat him down."

The man refused and ran off toward Purdue police headquarters on South Intramural Drive, where he reported the incident. He said the men got back in the car and drove off east on First Street. The victim was not injured.

He told police both the suspects were in their early 20s; of medium to heavy build; white; and between 5 feet 6 inches and 6 feet tall. One was wearing a blue floppy hat with an orange stripe. The other was coatless and had short brown hair.

Possible witnesses to the cases are asked to call Purdue or West Lafayette police at 494-8221 or 775-5200.
