BCC brings the 'self-esteem doctor' to Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Motivational speaker Jewel Diamond Taylor will present a free lecture Wednesday, March 3, as part of the spring semester Cultural Arts Series presented by Purdue University's Black Cultural Center.

Taylor will speak at 7 p.m. in the North Ballroom of the Purdue Memorial Union.

"Jewel Diamond Taylor believes that depression, low self-esteem and procrastination are the three most common enemies to one's own success and peace of mind," said Renee Thomas, Black Cultural Center director. "She attempts to motivate audiences to stop sitting on their assets, to live life more fully and to implement the strategies for success."

Taylor, known as the "self-esteem doctor" from Chicago, has been a professional motivational speaker since 1984, when she ended a career in human resources in the aerospace industry. She has traveled extensively to speak at conferences, churches, university campuses, retreats, schools, recovery organizations and corporations. For seven years, Taylor has been a speaker and mistress of ceremonies for the African-American Women on Tour Conference. This year, she will speak again in all six cities on the tour: Los Angeles, Detroit, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Washington and Atlanta.

She is the founder of a 10-year-old personal development organization called The Enlightened Circle through which she facilitates workshops, retreats, conferences and weekly lectures. She integrates her studies in psychology, spirituality and success principles to empower participants to understand the connection between the spirit, body, mind, success, service to others and personal fulfillment.

Taylor is the author of "Success Gems" and "Sisterfriends" (both from Quiet Time Publishing), and "You Are Too Blessed to Be Stressed" (self-published). She has written articles about self-empowerment for Essence, Heart and Soul and Upscale magazines.
