Extension sponsors welfare reform videoconferenceWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service will present a videoconference on the changing role of welfare agencies from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9."Ending the Welfare Agency as We Know It" will be seen at nearly 30 sites around Indiana. It is the first of at least two satellite programs on welfare reform that will originate from the University of Wisconsin. The videoconference will discuss the changing mission of welfare as it moves from issuing checks to promoting employment and creative problem solving. Among the topics to be covered are changes in management style, staff roles and case studies of agencies that have radically changed how they do business. The program is targeted to welfare workers and others participating in welfare reform efforts. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from and network with other agencies throughout the Midwest. "It's our goal to let people in Indiana know what's going on elsewhere," said Aadron Rausch, Purdue Extension specialist in consumer and family science. For more information or to find the location of the nearest participating site, contact the Extension office in your county. Information also is available from the University of Wisconsin Extension web site. CONTACT: Rausch, (765) 494-9516
