Feb. 15-March 7: Commercial Pesticide Applicator Training

Purdue Pesticide Programs and the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service are providing 11 commercial pesticide application training sessions for people who want to become certified pesticide applicators in various categories. Participants will learn biology, pesticide formulations, safety and pesticide laws. The sessions are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the certification exam offered immediately thereafter. Registration is $80 per person for each program. Early registration is recommended to receive study materials. Feb. 18: Marketing Workshop For Farm Products

Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, Ball State University, the Indiana Office of the Commissioner of Agriculture, and Historic Hoosier Hills RC&D are co-sponsors of this workshop in Columbus for farmers who want to know more about marketing their products. The workshop will cover marketing strategies, value-added processing, and the role of the Internet in marketing farm products of all types. It will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Columbus Holiday Inn, east of I-65 on State Road 46. Registration is $25 per person and includes lunch. Feb. 18: North Central Indiana Cow-Calf Irm Workshop

Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service and the Stony Pike Livestock Auction in Logansport are sponsoring this cow-calf workshop for Indiana beef producers. Topics include the Quality + Beef program, animal nutrition, genetics and marketing. The sessions will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the Stony Pike Livestock Auction facility in Logansport. Feb. 20: Purdue University Lambing School

The Purdue Department of Animal Sciences, Cooperative Extension Service and the Indiana Sheep Breeder's Association are co-sponsoring this program for sheep producers. Participants will assist in the live birth of a lamb, and seminar topics will include late gestation, lactation, care of newborn lambs, lamb and ewe nutrition, health considerations, and necessary herd management practices. The school will be at Purdue's Animal Science Research and Education Center, 5675 W. Tippecanoe County Road 600 N. Registration is $30 per person. Feb 22, 25: More Information...More Control Seminar

Farmers, crop consultants and others will have a chance to learn more about precision farming at two seminars being offered by the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service. The seminars are designed to provide more information on management decisions about precision agriculture and how the technology can turn a profit. The cost for each one-day seminar is $60, which includes lunch and a class manual. To register, call Precision Ag Services at (888) 258-0208. Feb. 25: Indiana Spring Plants School

Purdue Cooperative Extension Service is providing this school in Columbus to assist producers in growing and marketing spring plants. The school will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Columbus. Topics include vegetative annuals, improving spring plant offerings to the consumer, and combination plots for spring. Participants also will tour Elsbury's Greenhouse in Hope. Feb. 26-28: Indiana Grape Wine Symposium

The Indiana Wine Growers Guild is sponsoring this symposium and trade show at Bloomington's Courtyard Marmot to improve the wine and grape business. Topics will include marketing, improving sales, grower-winery relations, and vineyard management. The symposium, which is run by the Purdue Wine Grape team, starts at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 and will conclude Feb. 28. Registration is $35 for Wine Growers Guild members and $45 for non-members. Cost for attending a Saturday night banquet is $35. Registration deadline is Feb. 20; add $10 for late registration after that date.
