Area students write plays for Chicago companyWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Child's Play Touring Theatre will return to the Lafayette area for a performance at Long Center for the Performing Arts at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10. Stories and poems written by area elementary students have been adapted for the stage and will be performed by the Chicago-based company.Presented by Purdue University Convocations as part of its arts education and outreach programming, the performances will be preceded by an awards ceremony acknowledging the students whose work will be performed as well as 24 honorable mentions. Child's Play Touring Theatre in November worked with students from Pine Village, Hershey and Otterbein elementary schools, teaching them creative writing skills. The students went back to their classrooms, where they created stories, essays, poems and other pieces of creative writing that were submitted to Child's Play. The interactive troupe selected three pieces -- one from each school -- adapted them for the stage, and will perform them Wednesday:
The student authors of two dozen other pieces will be invited up on stage to receive honorable mention certificates at the awards ceremony preceding the performances:
The Feb. 10 performance at Long Center, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette, is primarily for students, but parents, teachers and other school personnel may purchase a $1 ticket at the door.
