Indianapolis broadcasts set for Purdue's 'Closer Look'

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- "Purdue: A Closer Look," the weekly television magazine that takes a closer look at the university's people, programs, research and services, makes its season broadcast premiere Sunday, Feb. 7, on WFYI-TV, Indianapolis.

Weekly broadcasts of the 13-program series will be seen at 11 a.m. Sundays on WFYI, Channel 20, the Indianapolis Public Broadcasting Service affiliate. Several cable outlets statewide also show the program at various times.

Each half-hour program includes a campus news update, feature segments and a studio interview.

The Indianapolis broadcast schedule on WFYI and topics for the first six programs in the series:

  • Feb. 7 -- Computer-integrated manufacturing technology; job prospects for graduates and the services of the Center for Career Opportunities; ostrich meat, a fast-growing food option.
  • Feb. 14 -- The Combustion Research Center; the parenting program, "It's My Child, Too"; a salute to the state flower.
  • Feb. 21 -- The innovative engineering outreach program, EPICS; the 10th anniversary of the Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee; a look at women's soccer, Purdue's newest varsity sport.
  • Feb. 28 -- Education technology; new ways of training teachers; the 1998 inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
  • March 7 -- Cold virus research; research on aging coordinated through the Purdue Gerontology Program; growing study-abroad options for Purdue students.
  • March 14 -- A look at literacy initiatives; new options and programs in the School of Nursing; puppy training pointers.

"Purdue: A Closer Look" is jointly produced by the Center for Instructional Services and the Office of University Relations. Program hosts are Beth Forbes, news coordinator at Purdue News Service, and Greg Zawisza, director of special projects at University Relations.
