For additional information, call (765) 494-8396 Feb. 1-4: Charting A Course For The Family Farm Meetings Purdue Cooperative Extension specialists will hold this series of educational meetings across the state to help farmers make the most of last season's limited farm income. Longer daytime meetings will offer concurrent sessions on more specific topics. Daytime sessions are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Evening sessions are from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Locations and times can be confirmed by contacting County Extension Offices. Feb. 1-March 7: Commercial Pesticide Applicator Training Purdue Pesticide Programs and the Cooperative Extension Service are providing two core pesticide application training sessions and 11 category training sessions at Purdue for people who want to become certified pesticide applicators. Participants will learn biology, pesticide formulations, safety and pesticide laws. The sessions are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the certification exam offered immediately thereafter. Registration is $80 per person for each program. Early registration is recommended to receive study materials. Feb. 2: Positioning The Farm Business Purdue Cooperative Extension Service is sponsoring this program to improve the competitiveness of Indiana farms. It will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Wabash County Office of the Extension Service. Participants will discuss forces that are shaping agriculture, their family and business goals, and various management styles. The fee of $35 includes a workbook and meal. Feb. 20: Purdue University Lambing School The Purdue Department of Animal Sciences, Cooperative Extension Services and the Indiana Sheep Breeder's Association are teaming up to bring this educational program to sheep producers. The school will be at Purdue's Animal Science Research and Education Center, 5675 W. Tippecanoe County Road 600 N. It is designed to educate new and veteran producers about the lambing process. The program will cover late gestation, lactation and care of newborn lambs. Other topics to be discussed are lamb and ewe nutrition, health considerations, and necessary herd management practices. Registration is $30 per person and is due by Feb. 11. Feb 24: Learning About Legislation Day 4-H members from across the state will have the opportunity to serve as pages in the Statehouse and learn more about the legislative process. 4-H'ers in grades 9-12 can apply to attend this event by contacting the Cooperative Extension Service office in their county.
