January 22, 1999 Missing man safe at home WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University police were informed Friday afternoon (1/22) that a Chesterton man reported missing since Tuesday (1/19) has returned home safely. Jason M. Mayes, 19, was visiting friends on Purdue's West Lafayette campus this week. He left a Ross-Ade Drive apartment at 10 a.m. Tuesday and had not been seen since. He does not have a Purdue affiliation. Purdue police were alerted to his disappearance early today (Friday, 1/22), and began an investigation. Detective Capt. Steven R. Dietrich said Mayes' mother reported that he returned home safely about 1 p.m. Source: Capt. Steven R.
