Movement workshop gets all ages moving

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue Convocations again this semester will offer its popular "Dance for Non Dancers" workshop. The free session will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, in the South Ballroom of the Purdue Memorial Union.

Carol Cunningham, associate professor of dance, and Sally Wallace, assistant professor, will lead this basic movement workshop geared toward those of all ages with no previous dance experience. Participants are encouraged to wear exercise-type clothing and to RSVP by calling the Convocations' offices at (765) 494-9712. The workshop is free and open to the public, but reservations help the organizers make preparations for the light refreshments that will be served to participants.

"We've been holding these 'Dance for Non-Dancers' workshops for a few years now, to much success," said Lorna Myers, Convocations executive director. "They are a fun part of our ongoing arts education and community outreach programming and are usually scheduled in conjunction with an upcoming dance performance. This time the workshop is in conjunction with the acclaimed Russian National Ballet's performance of Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake' on Sunday, Jan. 24, at Elliott Hall of Music."
