Sheep and wool market development will continueWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Indiana sheep and wool producers voted to continue the Sheep and Wool Market Development Council and elected two new directors.The referendum results were announced Jan. 4 by Randy Woodson, director of the Office of Agricultural Research Programs at Purdue University, which administers the council's programs. The industry-supported commodity program was reauthorized by a ratio of more than 6-to-1. Bill Buckland of Huntington and Stan Poe II of Franklin were elected to serve on the council. They join nine other directors to provide guidance and leadership for council programs. The council, made up of one producer from each of the 11 districts across the state, supports research, production, promotion and consumer- and producer-education programs. Funding comes from industry checkoffs of 25 cents per head and 1 cent per pound of wool. The Sheep and Wool Market Development Council was created by the state legislature in 1989.
