December 4, 1998 JOURNALISTS: Here are some story ideas and selected Purdue events during the next two weeks.
Career expert wraps up his careerAfter nearly four decades in the field, Richard Stewart is stepping down as Purdue's main career placement officer. Stewart, director of the Center for Career Opportunities, will retire at the end of January, completing a 38-year career of helping Purdue graduates find their first jobs. Stewart led the way in job recruiting by establishing a job data base in the 1960s and a student resume data base in the 1980s. He served the Association of Colleges and Employers as Midwest president in 1972 and as national president in 1992-93. The national association selected him as one of two charter members of its Academy of Fellows. Margaret Keiley says traditional times are a natural trigger for grief. "Someone has to take it upon themselves to set this up, but you might encourage family members to join you in a ritual of remembrance for lost loved ones," she says. Keiley says people can get together and share their grief either before or during the holidays. It need not be something elaborate: It could be as simple as placing a picture of the loved one at the dinner table. She says that when people allow themselves to feel the grief, they can get over it and realize that they will experience pleasant times as well. CONTACT: Keiley, (765) 463-2094Events
