Faculty and staff honors

-- The recipients of the 1998 Special Boilermaker Awards are Lawrence Bohl, professor of agricultural economics; Carole Lembi, professor of botany and plant pathology; and Richard Stewart, director of the Center for Career Opportunities. The Purdue Alumni Association presents Special Boilermaker Awards to individuals or groups who have contributed in important ways to improving the quality of life for Purdue students. Bohl has served as a Faculty Fellow and has taught and counseled more than 10,000 undergraduate students, receiving several awards in both teaching and counseling. Lembi has served as a Faculty Fellow and received the Commander's Award for Public Service from the U.S. Army Engineers for her work to finish a dissertation for a deceased doctoral candidate. Stewart has helped initiate and develop numerous student outreach programs, including Occupational Outlook, Health Career Expo and Indiana Collegiate Jobs Fair.

Appointments and promotions

-- Carrie Costello has been appointed as a patrol officer with the Purdue University Police Department. She formerly was director of the Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program of the YWCA of Greater Lafayette. Costello is a Purdue alumna with a bachelor's degree in psychology and philosophy.
