Ford Motor Co. increases annual giving to Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Ford Motor Co. has more than doubled its annual contribution to Purdue University for the 1998-1999 academic school year.

This year's grant, announced during a Ford recruiting day this fall, totals more than $700,000.

The money is designated for several areas across campus, including:

  • $250,000 for the study of supply chain and logistics management in the School of Management and the Krannert Graduate School of Management.

  • $150,000 for the study of flexible robotic assembly in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

  • $115,000 for the library at the new Black Cultural Center.

  • $190,000 for ongoing research, minority programs and scholarships throughout the university.

Ford representative Joe Poi said that Purdue is one of about 20 universities that his company partners with.

"Historically, the Midwestern schools have been major recruiting sites for Ford," he said. "And since we recruit more students from Purdue than from any other college outside the state of Michigan, we decided to identify and support potential areas of mutual benefit to Ford and Purdue."

Ford employs almost 1,000 Purdue graduates.
