BCC to present documentary on racism

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A free showing of the film "The Color of Fear" is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Purdue University as part of the Black Cultural Center's 1998 Cultural Arts Series.

The documentary, produced and directed by Lee MunWah, will be shown in the multipurpose room of the BCC at 315 University St. The screening is open to the public.

"The Color of Fear" examines the effects of racism on eight North American men of Asian, European, Latino or African descent. One by one, the men reveal the pain and scars that racism has caused them, the defense mechanisms they use to survive, their fears of each other, and their hopes and visions for a multicultural society.

James Saunders, Purdue professor of English, will lead a brief discussion after the film. Then the BCC will present an inspirational session entitled "Affirming Ourselves," when students and staff will read poetry, quotations and writings by prominent figures in the African-American community.
