Nov. 16-Dec. 4: Income tax school programs

This series of income tax workshops, sponsored by Purdue University, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and Indiana Department of Revenue, is geared toward providing tax professionals up-to-date training on tax laws and regulations. Dates and locations are: Nov. 16-17: Fort Wayne Nov. 19-20: Evansville Nov. 23-24: West Lafayette and Seymour Nov. 30-Dec. 1: Muncie and Indianapolis (east side) Dec. 2-3: Terre Haute Dec. 3-4: Indianapolis (west side) Registration is $239, and enrollment is limited. Nov. 17-19: Annual cooperative extension service conference

Cooperative Extension Service staff will gather on campus to discuss the future of CES and to honor outstanding members. Scheduled for Nov. 17 are committee meetings, breakout sessions, and a staff information fair. The evening will begin with a retiree's reception at 5:15 p.m. and a staff banquet and awards program at 6 p.m. Events on Nov. 18 will include a series of programs on state and county plans of work, individual action plans and accountability. At 2:30 p.m., the deans from the Schools of Agriculture, Consumer and Family Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine will discuss what they expect from CES as a result of the plans. The final day of the conference will have a new Extension staff breakfast along with Extension educators board meetings and committee meetings. Nov. 18-Dec. 8: Agricultural tax workshops

Purdue University, U.S. Internal Revenue Service and Indiana Department of Revenue are sponsoring three half-day agricultural tax workshops. Dates and locations are: Nov. 18: Fort Wayne Holiday Inn Northwest Dec. 2: Indianapolis Marriott Hotel Dec. 8: Jasper Holiday Inn Purdue agricultural economist George Patrick will lead in-depth discussions of farm and agricultural tax problems such as marketing arrangements and tax treatment, soil and water conservation expenditures, and farm leases and tax treatment. The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and adjourns at 12:30 p.m. Registration costs $70 if already enrolled in an income tax school (11 of them were scheduled around the state from Nov. 4 through Dec. 4) or $110 if not. Nov. 21: Barn again! workshop

Purdue's Cooperative Extension Service and the Historical Landmarks Foundation are teaming up to bring a Barn Again! workshop to Indiana. The daylong workshop will be at the Bartholomew County Extension building in Columbus. The program will provide information about incentives for renovation of old barns, labor and materials, and practical solutions for maintaining old barns and adapting them to today's needs. The workshop begins at 9 a.m. and will conclude at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for Historical Landmarks Foundation members and $30 for nonmembers. Participants must register by Nov. 16. Nov. 29-Dec. 4: Midwest agricultural banking school

Sponsored by the Indiana, Ohio and Michigan Banker's Associations and the Purdue Department of Agricultural Economics, this weeklong school will provide bankers with information on ag credit and finance, farm management, and marketing. Classes will be held at Purdue from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday. The course is structured for hands-on learning, personalized instruction and networking opportunities. The curriculum includes six core modules plus specialized topics for first- and second-year students. Tuition, which includes room, board and all instructional materials, is $725 for banker's association members and $960 for nonmembers. Registration is limited. Dec. 1: Value-added grain seminar

This seminar is designed to inform farmers, processors and specialty grain buyers of plot results and the outlook for value-added grain crops. Sponsored by the Gibson County Plot Committee and Purdue University, the seminar begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m. at the Vanderburgh County 4-H Center in Evansville. Participants can bring a pint of soil or one pound of grain for free analysis. Other topics to be covered include projections for white and yellow food corn, fine-tuning combines for specialty crops, and the global market for value-added grains.
