Appointments and promotions

-- Sam Florance became director of the Purdue Gateways Program on Oct. 1. The Purdue Research Foundation established the Gateways Program in September to provide a framework for the commercialization of university innovations. Florance had a 10-year career as an investment banker in Texas before coming to Purdue to work toward his doctorate in strategic management. While completing his studies, Florance has been teaching strategic management courses for the Krannert School of Management and organizational leadership and supervision courses for the School of Technology. Florance will continue to teach one course along with his new duties.

Campus activities

-- The School of Liberal Arts Learning Center will conduct an open house from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24. Refreshments and opening remarks will be in the Vision 21 Conference Room, Room 7150, Liberal Arts and Education Building. Tours of the Learning Center, in Room 3268, Liberal Arts and Education Building, will start at 9:30 a.m. The open house is sponsored by the Purdue Academic Advising Association.

-- Wiley Residence Hall will conduct its annual charity auction at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the East Dining Room. The event raises money to provide Christmas presents for Benton County children and a holiday meal for their families. Donations of items for the auction will be accepted through Nov. 12.
