Purdue sponsors income tax programs statewideWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Cooperative Extension Service and the Department of Agricultural Economics at Purdue University are sponsoring the 30th Annual Income Tax School and Agricultural Tax Workshops in November and December at locations around the state.The Income Tax School is intended for tax practitioners and is designed to provide up-to-date training on current tax laws and regulations. A special half-day Agricultural Tax Issues Workshop will cover farm tax issues in more depth. The Income Tax School is taught by representatives from the Internal Revenue Service, Indiana Department of Revenue and Purdue. The program will feature sessions on 1997 and 1998 changes in tax law affecting this year's returns; IRS restructuring; individual, small business and farm problems; and retirement and Social Security planning. The Agricultural Tax Issues Workshops are taught by George Patrick, Purdue professor of agricultural economics, and will supplement material presented in the Purdue Income Tax Schools. The fee for the Income Tax School is $209 for those who register before Oct. 26, and $239 after the deadline. Another $40 discount is available for participants who register with a friend who has never attended or has not participated since 1994. The fee for the Agricultural Tax Workshops is $70 for those registered for an Income Tax School, and $110 for others. The dates and locations for the Income Tax Schools are: Nov. 4-5, South Bend; Nov. 12-13, Valparaiso and Kokomo; Nov. 16-17, Fort Wayne; Nov. 19-20, Evansville; Nov. 23-24, West Lafayette and Seymour; Nov. 30-Dec. 1, Muncie and Indianapolis (east side); Dec. 2-3, Terre Haute; and Dec. 3-4, Indianapolis (west side). The locations and dates for the half-day Agricultural Tax Workshops, which run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., are: Nov. 18, Fort Wayne; Dec. 2, Indianapolis; and Dec. 8, Jasper.
