Alumni to return to campus for Homecoming '98

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Organizers are nearly ready for Purdue University's 1998 Homecoming activities Oct. 23-25.

Weekend activities revolve around the football game against Big Ten rival Illinois. Broadcast placement of the game will determine the start time.

Special activities this year include:

  • The Purdue Black Alumni Organization Tribute will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in Room 302, Stewart Center. The organization will recognize the contributions of Marion Blalock, director of the Minority Engineering Programs, and Cornell Bell, associate professor of management and director of minority programs for the School of Management. The Purdue Black Alumni Organization is sponsoring several other activities during Homecoming weekend. A Welcome Back reception is scheduled 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the Black Cultural Center. The organization will conduct its annual meeting at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 24 at the Black Cultural Center, followed by a tailgate party in the parking lot of the Black Cultural Center.   • The current residents and staff of Wiley Hall are welcoming alumni back during the hall's 40th anniversary. Activities include receptions Friday and Saturday evening, a pregame lunch, and a Sunday brunch. Reservations should be made by calling Wiley Hall, (765) 494-2260.

  • The Reamer Club will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a dinner and dance from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, Oct. 23, in the North Ballroom of the Purdue Memorial Union. President Steven C. Beering will speak. Tickets are $20 per person. Contact Amber Frederick, (765) 449-0460. The Reamer Club, founded in 1923, is the student organization that maintains the Boilermaker Specials. It supports major and Olympic sports and encourages the development of school spirit.

  • Tickets are still available for the Purdue vs. Illinois football game in Ross-Ade Stadium. Kickoff time is subject to change, depending on the television schedule, on Saturday, Oct. 24. Tickets are $24 for the public, $12 in South End Zone. Call 1-800-49-SPORT or (765) 494-3194. The alumni association will sponsor the Alumni Cafe at the corner of Intramural Drive and Stadium Avenue three hours before kickoff. Other pregame activities include an introduction of the 25th anniversary football team, coaches, managers, cheerleaders, and homecoming queen. Halftime will include the crowning of the 1998 homecoming queen and a performance by Purdue's "All-American" Marching Band.

  • Share an evening in song and celebration with Purdue Musical Organizations, the PMO Club and the Purdue Alumni Association at the Oktoberfest Banquet and Homecoming Celebration 1998. The reception starts at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the Purdue Memorial Union's Great Hall, followed by dinner in the Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person.
