Purdue to put Farm Progress Show pictures on the WebWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Because of the popularity of the Purdue University postings of State Fair pictures on the World Wide Web, Purdue Agricultural Communications staff will create a virtual version of the Farm Progress Show."Today at the Farm Progress Show" will pictorially highlight some of the people and activities at the Purdue tents and around the grounds of the show. Web surfers can find the pictures at the Purdue Agriculture and Natural Resources Web site at http://www.anr.ces.purdue.edu/anr/98fps/98fps.html. A few high-resolution pictures also will be posted at the Farm Progress Show link from the Agricultural Communications News page at http://www.agcom.purdue.edu/AgCom/news/news.html. Some of the first pictures will the kickoff of the Hoosier Hay Lift, a relief effort to collect Indiana hay and ship it to Oklahoma and Texas to help overwinter drought-stressed cattle. Gov. Frank O'Bannon, Lt. Gov. Joe Kernan, Purdue Extension Director Hank Wadsworth and others will be available at the show to talk about the cooperative statewide relief effort. One of the largest farm shows in the country, with 600 vendors, the Farm Progress Show is an 80-acre tent city that suddenly appears each year in the middle of Midwest farm fields. An estimated 300,000 to 350,000 visitors will travel to Tipton County for the three-day event Sept. 29-Oct. 1 near Windfall, Ind. The show is organized by Farm Progress Cos. and rotates between Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. The Purdue presence will include an animal sciences tent, a mock house, agricultural production and research exhibits, a forestry management tour in a nearby woodlot, and for the first time, a career tent for students considering college.
