Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**).

EVENTS

  • Monday, Aug. 24. Recreational Sports Spectacular. 3-6 p.m. This open house at the Recreational Sports Center will show students the variety of activities available there.

  • Thursday, Aug. 27. Black Cultural Center Boilerfest. 4 p.m. Black Cultural Center, 315 University St. This open house for new students will provide food, music and information.

  • Friday, Aug. 28. Main Event and Activities Carnival. 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center. More than 90 student organizations will have displays and information booths at the outdoor activities carnival during the day, and a variety of entertainment will be presented. Sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board.

  • ** Tuesday, Sept. 15. Computer Roundtable. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Ballrooms, Purdue Memorial Union. Association of Information Technology Professionals sponsors this job fair.

  • ** Tuesday, Sept. 15. Consumer and Family Sciences Central Indiana Boiler Mixer. 5-7 p.m. Statehouse Rotunda, Indianapolis. Session will show how CFS and the state work together to improve families and communities. Tickets are $15. Call the CFS Alumni Office, (765) 494-7890 or 800-535-7303, for reservations and to confirm time and location.

  • ** Wednesday, Sept. 16. Industrial Roundtable. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Memorial Mall (rain location: Purdue Armory). Purdue Engineering Student Council sponsors this annual job fair.

  • ** Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 21-22. RHIT Career Day. Company representatives will meet faculty and more than 1,000 students from the Department of Restaurant, Hotel, Institutional, and Tourism Management. A reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, in the John Purdue Room, Stone Hall, for RHIT faculty, industry representatives, and December and May graduating seniors. A keynote address will be delivered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Career Day job fair will be from 1:30 to 4 p.m. that day in the South Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union.

  • Friday, Aug. 28. Welcome-back dance. 7-11 p.m. Purdue Armory. Sponsored by Phi Sigma Pi. Tickets are $3 per person.

  • ** Friday, Aug. 28. First Nighter Concert. 8-10 p.m. Ballrooms of Purdue Memorial Union. This free Purdue Varsity Glee Club concert highlights the new glee club members as well as the returning vocalists.

  • Saturday, Aug. 29. Slayter Slammer. Noon-5:30 p.m. Slayter Hill (rain location: Purdue Armory). Triangle and Acacia fraternities and Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Delta Delta sororities are sponsoring this free concert.

  • Saturday, Aug. 29. Dock dance. 8 p.m.-midnight, Shreve and Earhart docks. Sponsored by the Residence Hall Council.

  • ** Saturday, Sept. 12. Pregame concert by the "All-American" Marching Band. 9:40 a.m. (1-1/2 hours before kickoff for game against Rice). Slayter Center for the Performing Arts. Postgame concert will be at the Engineering Mall Fountain.

  • ** Saturday, Sept. 19. Pregame concert by the "All-American" Marching Band. 9:40 a.m. (1-1/2 hours before kickoff for game against Central Florida). Slayter Center for the Performing Arts. High-school bands from throughout the Midwest will join Purdue's band for a massed performance on the Ross-Ade Stadium field at halftime. Postgame concert will be at the Engineering Mall Fountain.
