JOURNALISTS: Here's an idea for a news story and a list of selected Purdue events during the next two weeks.

Students return to Purdue; 35,000 plus expected

Classes on Purdue's West Lafayette campus begin Monday, Aug. 24. Classrooms should be filled with at least as many students as last year (35,715), according to Doug Christiansen, director of admissions. Purdue will announce its fall enrollment figures on Tuesday, Sept. 1. In advance, Christiansen can discuss Purdue's recruiting and retention efforts. William Brubaker from Perkins & Will, Chicago, will speak about "The Evolution of the Skyscraper in Chicago" in this first of 12 weekly lectures in the John E. Goldberg Distinguished Lecture Series celebrating Chicago architecture. 4:30 p.m. Room 239, Stanley Coulter Hall. Sponsored by the School of Civil Engineering. Lorene Burkhart, publisher of Metro Magazines Inc., Indianapolis, will talk about "Back to Basics" in this first of 13 weekly lectures in the
Krannert Executive Forum. 11:30 a.m. Krannert Building Auditorium. Reporters are welcome, but are asked to refrain from asking questions during the lecture. Videotaping and taking photographs are not allowed during the formal part of the lecture, but are allowed during the student question-and-answer sessions.
