Apparent suicide under investigation in Purdue parkWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University police and the Tippecanoe County coroner's office are investigating the discovery of a body in Purdue's Horticulture Park this morning (Thursday, 7/30).The initial investigation indicated that the cause of death appeared to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. The body of a white male was lying face up in an open area of the park north of State Road 26. A shotgun was in his lap with a spent shell in the chamber, said Purdue police detective Capt. Steven R. Dietrich. Dietrich said a jogger discovered the body about 7:30 a.m. and contacted Tippecanoe County police by telephone from a nearby greenhouse. County police in turn alerted Purdue police.
