Purdue police investigating public indecency reportWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University police are investigating a Sunday evening (7/19) report of public indecency. Two female students told police that a man driving a car alone slowly pulled up to them at the corner of Stadium Avenue and Intramural Drive, reportedly to ask directions to Lafayette. When they approached the car, the man exposed himself. They turned away from the vehicle, and the suspect drove off. Shortly after the incident, the two women alerted police by flagging down a passing Purdue patrol car about 8:20 p.m. at the Northwestern Avenue Parking Garage. The women said the suspect, in his late '30s or early '40s, had a dark complexion, short brown or black hair and thin build, and was wearing a white tank top and blue shorts. He was driving a mint-green, two-door, boxy compact hatchback. Police also questioned two other female students who were jogging in the vicinity of the reported incident. One of the two said she spoke to the suspect when he asked directions, but she did not see him expose himself. They also reported that his car did not have a license plate. Purdue police detective Capt. Steven R. Dietrich said public indecency is a class A misdemeanor in Indiana, which carries up to a one-year jail term and/or up to a $5,000 fine. He said the case does not appear to be related to the July 10 arrest of a Purdue student on charges stemming from a public indecency incident that reportedly occurred last March in a campus library. Persons with any information on this case are asked to contact the Purdue Police Department at (765) 494-8221.
