Faculty and staff honors-- Purdue's Women in Engineering Program has been selected to receive the 1998 Maria Mitchell Women in Science Award. The award honors individuals or organizations that encourage girls and women to pursue careers in science and technology. It commemorates Mitchell, America's first professional woman astronomer and astronomy professor. Funded by the William R. Kenan Jr. Fund for Engineering, Science and Technology, and presented by the Maria Mitchell Association, this is the first year the award was determined by jury. The $5,000 award will be presented in October in Nantucket, Mass.
