IPFW names interim dean of business and management

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Ahmad R. Karim has been named interim dean of the School of Business and Management Sciences at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. He replaces Michael R. Lane, who will leave IPFW July 1 to assume the deanship at Berry College in Rome, Ga.

Karim, professor of labor relations and chairman of the management and marketing department, has been at IPFW since 1985. Previously he held positions at Northern Illinois University and the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

"Ahmad Karim enjoys the support of a large segment of the faculty in our business school," said Fenwick English, vice chancellor for academic affairs. "I expect him to carry on with implementing the recommendations of our recent accreditation review by the American Association of Colleges and Schools of Business. Among the highest priorities is the reformulation of the unit's strategic plan."

Karim's scholarship has focused on small business and arbitration decisions as they pertain to employee dismissals. His papers at the Midwest Business Administration Conference won awards in 1993, 1994 and 1996.

The naming of a full-time successor to Lane is expected in early spring of 1999 after a national search. Members of the search committee will include representatives of the Fort Wayne business community.
