It lists selected events on Purdue's West Lafayette campus or involving people or programs off campus during the next five weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**).

  • Tuesday May 12. Commencement for Purdue North Central. 7:30 p.m. Valparaiso University Chapel.

  • Wednesday May 13. Commencement for Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. 7 p.m. Fort Wayne Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Center.

  • Thursday, May 14. Teacher Recruitment Day for Purdue students and alumni. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms. Recruiters from about 70 school corporations and districts are expected.   • Friday, May 15. ROTC Tri-Service Commissioning Ceremony. 11 a.m. South Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union.

  • Saturday and Sunday, May 16 and 17. Spring commencement ceremonies at West Lafayette. 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day. Elliott Hall of Music. Tickets, distributed free to each student eligible to graduate, necessary for admission.   • ** Thursday, May 21. Annual Retirement Banquet. 6 p.m. Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms. The banquet will honor those who retired or will retire between July 1, 1997, and June 30, 1998, and who meet the definition of an official retiree. CONTACT Lisa Maurer, (765) 494-1693

  • ** Friday, June 12. Purdue Legends Golf Outing. 11 a.m. Elks Lodge outside West Lafayette. Basketball coach Gene Keady, former Purdue players and basketball personalities join the public for 18 holes of golf. Cost is $150. CONTACT: John Purdue Club, (765) 494-3248; fax, (765) 496-1842. Part of the Legends Weekend to honor Keady, Purdue's winningest basketball coach.

  • ** Friday, June 12. Dinner and roast of Purdue basketball coach Gene Keady. 6:30 p.m. Ballrooms, Purdue Memorial Union. Cost is $60, and seating is limited. Part of the Legends Weekend to honor Keady, who became Purdue's winningest basketball coach with his 372nd win in December.
