Purdue schedules commencement ceremonies
around state

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University will award degrees at five campuses and seven Statewide Technology sites around the state during commencement ceremonies in May.

Ceremonies are scheduled at the West Lafayette campus May 16 and 17. Approximately 4,515 students will earn degrees during four ceremonies.

Purdue President Steven C. Beering and a representative of the Purdue Alumni Association will address graduates at each ceremony in Edward C. Elliott Hall of Music.

The commencement ceremonies will feature two large video screens above the Hall of Music stage. The screens will display a close-up photo of each graduate as he or she is congratulated by the dean, just after receiving the diploma.

Tickets are required for admission to the hall; participants are issued tickets for family and friends.

Each ceremony will be for specific schools. The schedule is:

  • 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, Schools of Agriculture, Education, Management and Veterinary Medicine. Class response by Andrea Flynn, Gallatin, Tenn. , School of Management.

  • 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, Schools of Liberal Arts and Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences. Class response by Kathrine D. Gapinski, Georgetown, Ky. , School of Liberal Arts.

  • 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 17, Schools of Consumer and Family Sciences, Science, and Technology. Class response by Brian Alford, Oak Park, Mich. , School of Technology.

  • 2:30 p.m. Sunday May 17, Schools of Engineering. Class response by Andrew Watson, Indianapolis , School of Materials Engineering.

Of the approximately 4,515 degree candidates on the West Lafayette campus, about 3,615 are undergraduates. Undergraduate totals, by schools, are:

  • Agriculture -- 375
  • Consumer and Family Sciences -- 240
  • Education -- 110
  • Engineering -- 745
  • Liberal Arts -- 625
  • Management -- 250
  • Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Sciences -- 245
  • Science -- 240
  • Technology -- 785

The other candidates on the West Lafayette campus include approximately 800 students from the Graduate School and 100 professional-degree candidates -- 64 from the School of Veterinary Medicine and 36 from the School of Pharmacy and Pharmacal Sciences.

Commencement videos for each school will be available to new graduates, their families and friends, said Steve Hall, director of the Hall of Music. The video costs $25 plus $5 postage and handling. Order forms are available at Purdue box offices and will be available from hall ushers and with programs during the commencement exercises. The Hall of Music box office will be open just before and after each commencement ceremony to accept order forms.

Commencement times and locations at other Purdue campuses are:

  • Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, 3 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at the RCA Dome.

  • Purdue North Central, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the Valparaiso University Chapel and 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Westville Correctional Center.

  • Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at the Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Center.

  • Purdue Calumet, 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, on the North Lawshe Lawn of the Hammond campus.

Statewide Technology commencements will be:

  • Anderson-Muncie, 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, Warner Auditorium, Anderson University.

  • Columbus, 7 p.m. Sunday, May 10, Holiday Inn.

  • New Albany, 7 p.m. Monday, May 11, Amphitheater, Indiana University-Southeast.

  • Kokomo, 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, Kelley Center, Indiana University, Kokomo.

  • South Bend-Elkhart, 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, Century Center, South Bend.

  • Versailles, 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, South Ripley Elementary School.

  • Richmond, 6 p.m. Friday, May 15, Richmond High School.
