JOURNALISTS: Here's a story idea and Purdue events during the next two weeks.
Outstanding teacher puts students
in 'real' restaurant
The "manager" of a unique Purdue class that puts students to work in every aspect
of food service is the winner of an outstanding teaching award. Richard Ghiselli,
assistant professor of restaurant, hotel, institutional and tourism management, teaches
the lab class that operates the John Purdue Room at lunch weekdays in Stone Hall. The
students rotate through every job from hostess to cook. Each "lab" consists of serving
meals to paying customers who order off of menus and fill out comment cards. Ghiselli
is this year's Mary L. Matthews Award recipient for outstanding undergraduate teaching
in the School of Consumer and Family Sciences. CONTACT: Ghiselli, (765) 496-2374
