Purdue police seek leads in missing-student caseWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue University police are seeking leads to the whereabouts of a student who was last seen on Thursday (3/19).Police were alerted Monday (3/23) evening when the student's father called to report that his son had not been seen in his Cary Quadrangle Residence Hall since last week. The father had been contacted by the son's friends earlier Monday evening. The student is John C. Leath, 19, a freshman in engineering from Wilmette, Ill., who resides in Room 105, Northeast Cary Quadrangle. Leath is white, with short blond hair and blue eyes. He is 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds. When last seen, he was believed to be wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. "The young man's friends and relatives have indicated to us early in our investigation that it is not like him to disappear without alerting anyone," said Purdue police Capt. Steven R. Dietrich. "We are asking people who know John Leath or who have any information about where he might be to contact our department as soon as possible at (765) 494-8221."
