'Bye Bye Birdie' flies into Elliott

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "Bye Bye Birdie" flies into Purdue University at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 27, in the Elliott Hall of Music. The performance is presented by Purdue Convocations with support from Insight Communications.

"Bye Bye Birdie" features film and television actor Troy Donahue in the role of Harry MacAfee, father of the teenager chosen to receive a farewell kiss from teen idol Conrad Birdie before he goes into the Army. Best known for the hit song "Put On a Happy Face," the musical comedy is based loosely on the life of Elvis Presley and won four Tony Awards in 1961, including Best Musical. The New York Daily News stated, "The show is pure musical comedy, jampacked with humor and light-hearted imagination."

Tickets are $30, $23 and $18 for the public, $18 and $14 for Purdue students, and $7 and $5 for Family Circle seating (second balcony) at campus box offices. Charge by phone at (765) 494-3933 or 1-800-914-SHOW.
