Composed by Gaetano Donizetti in 1839, "The Daughter of the Regiment" is the story of Marie, the adopted daughter of Napoleon's 21st Regiment, and her search for true love and her true identity.
The New York Times called Donizetti's comic opera "a masterpiece full of wonderful melodies and joie de vivre. It's a grand evening of fun."
The opera will be sung in French; however, English translations of the song lyrics projected above the stage, called supertitles, will allow Purdue audiences to follow the story more easily.
Thomas Trotter, a tenor with The New York City Opera National Company, will give a preshow discussion at 7 p.m. in Room 15, Elliott Hall. The discussion is free and open to the public.
Tickets for the opera are $28, $23 and $18 for the public, $18 and $14 for Purdue students, and $7 and $5 for Family Circle seating (second balcony) at campus box offices. Charge by phone at (765) 494-3933 or 1-800-914-SHOW.
