Purdue names 3 new department heads in Liberal Arts
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Three academic departments in Purdue University's School of
Liberal Arts will have new department heads.
Cynthia Stohl, professor of communication, will assume leadership of the Department
of Communication, Gordon Mork, professor of history, has been named head of the Department
of History, and Carolyn Perrucci, associate dean of the Graduate School and professor of sociology, will head the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
Mork already has assumed his duties. Stohl's and Perrucci's appointments are effective
July 1.
- Stohl joined Purdue in 1982 as an assistant professor of communication. Her teaching
and research have focused on group and organizational communication, global and international
organizations, communication networks and worker participation programs. She earned a bachelor's degree from State University of New York College at Buffalo
and master's and doctoral degrees from Purdue. She will succeed Charles Stewart,
who will return to teaching and research.
- Mork began his Purdue career as an assistant professor of history in 1970. His teaching
and research interests include history education, modern Germany, the Holocaust and
genocide. He earned a bachelor's degree from Yale University and master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Minnesota. He succeeds John Contreni, who retired.
- Perrucci joined the Purdue faculty in 1966 as an assistant professor of sociology.
Her areas of teaching and research have been in the sociology of work and occupations,
sociology of the family, sociology of gender differences, sociology of aging, and
the sociology of education. She received a bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State
University, and master's and doctoral degrees from Purdue. She has been associate
dean of the Graduate School since 1992. She will succeed Dean Knudsen, who will return
to teaching and research.
