FEB. 12: STARLIGHT VEGETABLE GROWERS MEETING
This free meeting at St. John's school in Starlight, Ind., will offer vegetable production and marketing techniques that have current or future potential. Related commercial exhibitors are welcome. FEB. 16-17: GREAT LAKES GRAZING CONFERENCE
This conference in Akron, Ohio, is co-sponsored by the Purdue and Ohio State University Extension Services. The first day will have two concurrent sessions, grazing basics for the novice livestock grazier and mastering the art for the experienced grass farmer. The next day will feature breakout sessions on beef, sheep, dairy and poultry. A trade show also will be held at the conference. FEB. 17: FUTURE OF BOTANICALS IN THE MEDICINAL PLANT INDUSTRY
A tour of horticultural businesses in the Louisville, Ky., area will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Following the tour, Jim Simon from Purdue University will present a session on the current and future uses of botanicals in the medicinal plant industry and their potential as supplemental crops in southern Indiana. FEB. 24-28: ADVANCED ORGANIC-BIODYNAMIC VEGETABLE PRODUCTION
This workshop will feature two sessions for growers who want to know more about organic vegetable production and marketing. It will be held at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, East Troy, Wis. Session I is Feb. 24-26, and Session II is Feb. 26-28. The workshop fee for each session is $75 plus $45 for meals. There is a 10 percent discount for those who attend both sessions. FEB. 26: COMMERCIAL GREENHOUSE PRODUCTION
How to make money for your business, making hanging baskets, and attracting the eye of the customer are topics included in the Spring Growers School at the Heartland Growers Greenhouse, a 14-acre modern greenhouse in Westfield, near Noblesville. Registration fees are $30 per person and $20 per additional person from the same firm. FEB. 26-27: NATIONAL ALFALFA SYMPOSIUM
Alfalfa grazing, pest management, marketing and a farmer panel, "Alfalfa in My Farming Operation," are featured topics at the annual event in Bowling Green, Ky. Also to be discussed are recent developments affecting the alfalfa/forage industry . Advance registration, due by Feb. 12, is $35 for one day and $50 for both days.
