French ballet graces Elliott stage Feb. 6

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse presents well-known dances by Balanchine and deMille at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music. The show is part of the Lively Arts Series and is presented by Purdue Convocations with support from Cinergy and Insight Communications.

Established in 19th century to perform for operas, the Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse now maintains a strong connection to classical and contemporary dance styles as well as to the opera. Its performance at Purdue will feature "Prodigal Son" by Prokofiev and Balanchine, "Scotch Symphony" by Mendelssohn and Balanchine, and "Rodeo" by Copland and deMille. Critic Andre Philippe Hersin has called the Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse "one of the five best French companies" today.

Tickets are $23, $19 and $13 for the public, $13 and $11 for Purdue students, and $7 and $5 for Family Circle seating (second balcony) at campus box offices. Charge by phone at (765) 494-3933 or 1-800-914-SHOW.
