JAN. 26-30: CROP MANAGEMENT WORKSHOPS

The Purdue Pest Management Program will hold a series of Crop Management Workshops at five locations throughout Indiana. Participants will discuss topics such as insect and insecticide considerations, a review and update of pesticide regulations, variable corn establishment and grain production, and pest and nutrient management planning. Registration is $40 per person, and preregistration is encouraged. The fee does not include lunch. The workshops will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on these days:

JAN. 27-28: INDIANA HORTICULTURAL CONGRESS

The congress includes two days of educational sessions devoted to growers interested in commercial fruit, vegetables and specialty crops. There also will be sessions on pest and disease management and a trade show. The congress will be at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Indianapolis. Registration is $35 for members of groups sponsoring the congress, and $45 for nonmembers. CONTACT: Jane Carter, (765) 494-1293.

FEB. 7: REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR AMERICAN FORAGE AND GRASSLAND CONFERENCE

The conference will be in Indianapolis March 8-10. Registration costs, which should be paid before Feb. 7, vary depending on what sessions registrants choose to participate in. Sessions will cover forage production and use, environmental and wildlife issues, forage management, the economics of forage utilization, soil fertility and plant nutrition, and the genetic improvement of forages. FEB. 7: PURDUE LAMBING SCHOOL

Topics for novice and veteran sheep producers will include nutrition, reproduction, lambing barn obstetrics and management practices. The school will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Purdue Baker Animal Sciences Research Center near Montmorenci. CONTACT: Mike Neary, (765) 494-4849.

FEB. 24-28: ADVANCED ORGANIC-BIODYNAMIC VEGETABLE PRODUCTION WORKSHOP

This workshop will feature two sessions for growers who want to know more about organic vegetable production and marketing. It will be held at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, East Troy, Wisc. Session I is Feb. 24-26, and Session II is Feb. 26-28. The workshop fee for each session is $75 plus $45 for meals. There is a 10 percent discount for those who attend both sessions.
