Musical comedy 'Damn Yankees' swings into Elliott Hall

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "Damn Yankees" comes to Purdue University at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Elliott Hall of Music. The show is part of the Lively Arts Series and is presented by Purdue Convocations with support from Cinergy and Insight Communications.

A Faustian comedy, "Damn Yankees" tells the story of middle-aged Joe Boyd who makes a pact with the devil in order to lead his favorite baseball team, the Washington Senators, to victory against the unbeatable New York Yankees. "Damn Yankees" debuted on Broadway in 1955, winning eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. The production includes the songs "(You Gotta Have) Heart," "Two Lost Souls" and "Whatever Lola Wants." The New York Times said "Damn Yankees is a triumph! Broadway showbiz at its fast-paced, skillful best!"
