Educational topics to be covered at Purdue Lambing School

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- This year's Purdue University Lambing School will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Purdue University Animal Sciences Research and Education Center's Sheep Unit, about 10 miles northwest of the West Lafayette campus.

The school is conducted each year as an educational event for beginning or veteran sheep producers to help keep them abreast of lambing procedures.

"The lambing school is designed for maximum 'hands-on' experience and informal questions and discussions," said Mike Neary, Purdue Extension sheep specialist.

He said program topics will include nutrition, reproduction, health considerations, lambing barn obstetrics, and necessary management practices. Instructors will be Neary; Wayne Singleton, Extension livestock specialist; Gerald Kelly, Department of Animal Sciences shepherd; and Dr. Dawn Frank of Horizon Veterinary Services.

A registration fee of $30 per person must be received by Jan. 30. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until 40 spots are filled. For more information about registration or program content, contact Neary at (765) 494-4849.
