1. ON CAMERA ANCHOR Until a building project is completed, most people have little idea what it will look like, especially on the inside. But supporters of a new three-million-dollar structure for the Black Cultural Center at Purdue University are getting a preview of what they can expect, thanks to the latest computer technology. Dan Skinner has the story.

3. NAT SOUND The cornerstone of racial understanding at Purdue University is the Black Cultural Center. The 27-year-old center will soon enhance its key role with a new building. But even before ground is broken, Black Cultural Center Director Renee Thomas is taking potential donors on a tour of the facility, with the help of an interactive computer program developed by students and faculty at Purdue.
4. SOT (Thomas) You walk through a key-hole design and then open up into the new Black Cultural Center facility. The entranceway is a place in which receptions will be held as well as will have an opportunity to greet visitors to the center.
5. SOT (Thomas) The new Black Cultural Center will provide an opportunity to have our various African artifacts and art pictures hung prominently.
6. SOT (Thomas) The auditorium is a space in which our performing-arts ensembles will have an opportunity to rehearse and host small performances.

CG: Renee Thomas, Director, Purdue Black Cultural Center The balcony space will serve as an art exhibit area as well, and the walls here will have artwork displayed, both on the first floor and second floor area. And while you're up on the second floor in the balcony, you have an opportunity to view the artwork down below.
8. SOT (Thomas) The current library houses six-thousand books and volumes. The new Black Cultural Center library will be able to expand that collection tremendously.
9. SOT (Thomas) The last area on the second floor is our computer lab. And it will house twenty-five computer stations .

CG: Courtesy Purdue News Thomas says the "virtual visit" software has made it easier for her to convey a sense of excitement about the project. Thomas expects construction of the new building to begin this spring, and the project to be completed for fall of 1999.
