JAN. 3: HOOSIER SHEEP INDUSTRY SYMPOSIUM YOUTH SESSION

Indiana 4-H'ers from elementary school age and up can learn the basics of showing sheep at the symposium, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Quality Inn East, 3525 N. Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis. Speakers will instruct participants on selecting sheep, feeding and health, and grooming and showing. The event includes a pizza party, swim party, trade show and exhibit area. JAN. 13-16: CERTIFIED CROP ADVISER WORKSHOP

This workshop will include sessions on disease, insect, weed and herbicide management. All sessions are open to the public, but will be especially helpful for those preparing for the Certified Crop Advisor exam in February. Sessions will be in Stewart Center. Registration is $400, plus a $6 parking fee for visitors not staying at the Union Club Hotel. The fee includes lunches during workshop days. Enrollment is limited to 40. JAN. 21-23: PURDUE AG FORUM: "A 20/20 VISION OF RURAL INDIANA"

The annual forum will look at agriculture, education, technology and economics.

• Events begin Jan. 21 with a general session in Stewart Center on rural economic change in Indiana, population migration and demographics, roads and the changing characteristics of rural Indiana families. An afternoon session includes a panel discussion by Indiana leaders about the vision for their communities in the year 2020.

• Jan. 22 events begin with a question-and-answer session with Lt. Gov. Joe Kernan. Four sessions then will be held in Stewart Center. An agriculture session will cover farming demographics; rural opportunities; labor issues; the changing structure and size of farms; the global marketplace; and environmental issues. A technology session will look at how business and education technology will work in Indiana's economic future. An education session will focus on the future of learning technologies and the roles of educators in helping rural Indiana progress during the next 25 years. The next session, "The Changing Indiana Family," will look at the state of child care and health care. An evening session, which begins at 7 p.m., includes an outlook panel sponsored by WILL-580 Radio.

• The "Ag Forecast" on Jan. 23 will feature a panel of industry leaders discussing the future of agriculture. The session begins at 9 a.m. in Loeb Theater of Stewart Center and will be broadcast live on Channel Earth.

Daytime sessions for the Ag Forum cost $15 for one day or $25 for two days, and preregistration through Purdue's Continuing Education department is encouraged. Evening events are free.

JAN. 23: AG FISH FRY

The annual Ag Fish Fry begins at 11:30 a.m. with the theme, "We're Off ... To See The Wizard," with Fish-Fry variations on the characters from "The Wizard of Oz." Entertainment will be provided by the Purdue Pep Band and Purdue Musical Organizations. Certificates of Distinction will be awarded to honorees selected for their service to agriculture. Fish Fry tickets are $12 each and available only in advance. Tickets can be purchased at all Purdue Cooperative Extension Service county offices in Indiana or through the Ag Alumni Association office. Group discounts are offered for parties of 10 or more.
