JOURNALISTS: Here are newsworthy Purdue events during the next two weeks.
AIDS Memorial Quilt on display at Memorial Union
The Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt will make its only 1997 stop in Indiana on Nov.
16-18 in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms. The display will be open from 1 p.m.
to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 17 and
18. Among the 904 panels that will be on display will be those commemorating Indiana AIDS
victims Ryan White and Amy Sloan. The entire quilt project includes more than 42,000
panels from all 50 states and 40 foreign countries. The Names Project AIDS Memorial
Quilt was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. In 1990, "Common Threads," a documentary
film about the quilt, won an Academy Award. The display is being sponsored by the

Old Masters. Twelve leaders in various professional fields will share their experiences
and observations with Purdue students in classroom settings and informal meetings.
A public reception is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in Hillenbrand Hall.

Friday, Nov. 14.
"Tibet and the Inner Life: A Conversation With Tendon Choegyal, the Brother and Envoy
of the Dalai Lama." Choegyal will discuss the spirituality of Tibetan Buddhism with
Wayne Teasdale, a member of the board of the Parliament of the World's Religions.
8 p.m. Class of 1950 Lecture Hall. Choegyal lived with his brother in Tibet and now lives
in India as part of the Dalai Lama's community. He is in the United States as the
Dalai Lama's special envoy to the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago.
Choegyal could be available to meet with journalists at 7:15 p.m. Nov. 14, if there is
interest. Also, radio stations can arrange phone interviews with Choegyal in advance.
