Chekhov's 'Three Sisters' on stage at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue Theatre's second production of the season will be Anton Chekhov's "Three Sisters," a Russian tale of complexity and contradiction, Thursday, Nov. 13, through Sunday, Nov. 23, in the Experimental Theater, Stewart Center. There will be no performance on Monday, Nov. 17.

The play is a tender, nostalgic account of the downfall of an upper-class family in turn-of-the-century Russia. Three sisters and a brother think they will find happiness if they can escape from the small town where they have been stranded by the death of their father. They yearn for the lights and lifestyle of Moscow they knew as children, although what they really are searching for is not a city, but a fulfillment that is missing from their lives.

Tickets are $11 for the public, $7 for students and senior citizens, at Purdue box offices, (765) 494-3933 or 1-800-914-SHOW. Show time for regular performances is 8 p.m. Exceptions are 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23.

Sneak previews are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, and Wednesday, Nov. 12. Tickets for the sneak previews are $4.50.
